When you purchase a membership or a one‑off ticket, you will receive a welcome email from us within 24hours which will include instructions on how to join the WhatsApp group. If you’re still having trouble, please email us at info@dog-eared.co.uk or send us a message on Instagram at @dogearedchester.

Your subscription supports the website, helps us introduce Dog‑eared to new members, and - if you’re in the book and meet‑up membership - covers the cost of your monthly book. It also goes towards decorations for book‑club gatherings, and when we plan social events, we’ll contribute to the cost of the night out whenever we can.

Of course! We're a no-pressure book club, so it doesn't matter if you didn't finish the book. Even if you haven't had a chance to start it, you're still very welcome to come along. Join us to chat about books you've enjoyed, discover new recommendations, or simply have a catch-up. We're all about good conversations, not ticking reading off a checklist.

Each month, members can submit book recommendations for future Dog-eared reads. From all the suggestions received, four books will be selected at random and added to the monthly voting poll on WhatsApp.

When selecting the shortlist, we may also consider factors such as genre variety, diversity of recommendations, and whether a book has already been read by the club to help keep our reading list fresh and varied.

Once the shortlist has been created:

1. The four selected books will be shared in a poll on the Dog-eared WhatsApp.
2. Each member can cast one vote for the book they would most like to read.
3. Voting will remain open for a set period.
4. The book with the most votes will become the next Dog-eared Book Club read.

This means every recommendation has a chance of being chosen, while members still get the final say on what we read next.

Dog-eared will usually be hosted on the first Thursday of the month at The Loft which is within Commonhall Street Social in Chester. If the date needs to change for some reason there will be a post on social media and WhatsApp Group and it will be updated on the website.

Absolutely! Many people come on their own and end up making friends! We are a welcoming community and the hosts will also ensure you are introduced to other members.
